I’m back, I’m back in denim

5:23 pm on the 4th of October, 2003

I’m back at last (’Halleluiah’ I hear you say) after an all to long break. So what’s happenned in the time I’ve been away, well, I went to Spain, went to my brother’s wedding, I started back at uni and a whole load of other boring stuff and then finally broadband arrived in my flat. You can come round and use it if you like but only if you promise to fix our network because at the moment it does notwork.

Oh hang on, the rain’s just come on and I’ve got washing out.

Right where was I? That’s about it really. There was one other thing, Eddie Izzard is going to be the next Dr Who!

Erm, I’ll be back when I have something interesting to say and I’ve got the internet on my PC and don’t have to try typing on Stuart’s laptop.

Oh and just in case you were wondering why I had a wishlist, my birthday is on the 27th of this month.

I hate having to think up witty titles, so you’re not getting one today.

Right, everything’s sorted. Got the Euros, got my E111, my passport, checked the times of the planes, booked the taxi to take us to the airport tomorrow morning and I’ve got all of my clothes reached out ready to be packed. All I need to do now is pack, set the alarm and be able to get up at ridiculous o’clock, make the connecting flight in Luton, not get mugged in Barcelona, find a birthday present for my sister (any ideas?), not get too sunburnt so as to not look like too much like a walking blister in a kilt at my brothers wedding and prepare for spending an entire night in Luton airport.

It seems the only reason you need a holiday is to relax from the stress of organising a holiday.

blogging research

11:43 am on the 12th of August, 2003

I’ve finally got around to filling in a form for a student at Edinburgh Uni who’s doing research into the habits of bloggers. You can find more out here or go straigh to the experiment here

O2=bad

4:30 pm on the 5th of August, 2003

15 days and several increasingly angry emails after ordering my new phone and it still isn’t here. I’ve had just one reply from o2 and that was an automated respsonse passing the blame onto Securicor! I can’t even check if it’s been dispatched anymore because the ’shop is having technical difficulties at the moment - please try again later, we’re trying to fix it’ (read ‘we’ve realised that you’re getting pissed off at us for being incompetant so we’ve decided that we’re going to make you phone our premium rate phone number to cancel instead of letting you cancel online’) and now I can’t do anything but wait.

place your bets

3:07 pm on the 29th of July, 2003

Presumably you’ve all seen this story by now, but if you haven’t The Pentagon is to start taking bets on future acts of terrorism. Surely this is just going to be exploited by the terrorists. Imagine the odds you’d get on, say, an unknown gang from Shettleston bombing somewhere completely unexpected like the Sydney Opera House. Imagine a boy in a white shell tracksuit placing a huge bet just half an hour before it happenned. They’d have made enough money to cover the cost of the act and made enough to cover the cost of the next bet. They could bankrupt the US in a day!

a summer wasting

12:38 pm on the 27th of July, 2003

I pretty much wasted my summer this year, after leaving Aberfeldy I came home and haven’t got a job or really done anything except go away camping one weekend but it all going to kick off soon. With the realisation that I don’t in fact have resits I can now go to my brothers stag night after all, the same weekend that my flatmate for next year gets the keys for the flat. Soon after that I’m going on holiday with Morven to Spain, I booked the flights yesterday and I’m pretty exited about it. The basic plan is a couple of days in each of Barcelona then Valencia then Cuenca then Madrid, but I don’t really know what would be best to go to to make the most of the time we have in each place. Obviously trips to the Nou Camp and the Bernabau are top of the list but apart from that any ideas?

time to flit?

5:34 pm on the 23rd of July, 2003

trends among bloggers come and go as quickly as cabinet scapegoats and the current one that is doing the rounds since I’ve been away is shutting up shop. Since we went to start work at the crown (don’t go there its a dive - we only lasted two days, more of that later) not.so.soft had been in hiding for a couple of weeks and when I went to catch up with everything the other day for the first time since our quick holiday in Aberfeldy I find out that little red boat had sunk, pickle had moved his jar elsewhere and graybo seems to have disappeared of the face of the earth. It was even happening outwith the authors real control in d4d’s case

Is nothing safe in this world I thought as I had one last look at not so soft to find that meg was back, kind of, at meish.org. just as well too.

So what do I do? maybe it’s time stuart’s weblog had a proper name and a new domain? Nah, that would just be following another trend like having a wishlist or geoURL or blogrolling audi olympics or something and I wouldn’t want to do that now would I?

new phone

3:06 pm on the 21st of July, 2003

Like the big spacker I am I managed to lose my phone on Friday. It must have fallen out of my pocket while I was chasing after my dog to pull him off some other innocent mutt before he completely mutilated the poor thing. I didn’t realise till I got home and when I went back it was nowhere in sight and my guess is some keniving little get took it and put his sim card in it. Anyway the result is I’m getting myself one of these fancy little things. I’m off to give blood now though and so too will the little twuntTM Scaryduck who has my phone, if all goes to plan, after he was fooled by the reminder I had set myself!

back in 5 minutes

3:49 pm on the 10th of July, 2003

give or take a month or so. I probably won’t be updating this untill I restart uni at the end of September. See you then.

going away

11:26 am on the 26th of June, 2003

Since I last posted I’ve left halls where I had high-speed internet access in my room and come home to Dunbar to my ‘dial a 6 to start’ 56k line so that’s why it’s been quiet. It’s probably going to be quiet for a long time as well because I finally got a job sorted yesterday. Morven and I will be working in The Crown Hotel in Aberfeldy for a couple of months from next week. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get online at all or even be able to use a computer for dump photos, so if you’re feeling generous you can buy me one of these from my wishlist or even, if you’re feeling very generous/stupid, one of these.
