I went to the pub last night. In a year’s time I’ll be about to graduate, as will Morven. We’ll know where I’m going to be teaching for the next year, Morven will be be looking for a job in the same area. Andy and Kat, who we were at the pub with will have vastly different prospects, but equally undefined. Andy will have another 4 - at least - years of uni, while Kat will be somewhere - Lossimouth? - far away from Glasgow in the RAF. Sobering prospects.

Anyway, today I wrestled with an essay that’s due on Friday, I just couldn’t get it out and I’m dtill not happy with it but I don’t know if I’m able to get it any better without doing a complete rewrite which I don’t have time for. On the other side of things though, Inventor is doing all the hard work for me at the moment regards design. If only I’d been introduced to it earlier I could have had all this done much sooner. This week we should be ready to put our files into the rapid prototyper and set it loose on a big part of our final grade. Neil and Krysia got their’s done last Friday which was pretty exciting, it’ll be good to see how it looks tomorrow.

Aside from working today I’ve managed to distract myself with a number of little projects revolving around flickr, in particular I liked this silly little idea while I was busy not typing up my most profound thoughts about formative assessment, and before I even got started today I went for a walk in search of something interesting to photograph, I’m not sure how interesting they are, but it was a reasonable little walk.

Another photo from our travels in Europe last year, I realised I never finished re-telling our tales. This photo was at Gasthaus Michelhof, Furtwangen.

The prize of two tickets on the Paris Metro is up for grabs (I can’t gaurantee that they are still valid) if you get the correct answer to these questions:
When we left Germany, what country did we go to next and name the band who recorded a song that shares a title with the last post I wrote about our travels in Europe?

Ben Vane and Ben Ime

9:37 pm on the 28th of February, 2005

Last Sunday (20th February) I ventured out in the freezing cold with a friend and went up where it was even colder, it was a very tough day’s walking over hard snow.
We parked just past Inversloy power station and headed down the road and under the railway bridge then up the track to the dam. Just past a farm we left the track and headed up the shoulder(s) of Ben Vane. Two hours after leaving the car we were at the top, another two hours later we had dropped off the other side of Ben Vane and, via Lag Uaine and Glas Bhealach, made our way up to the summit of Ben Ime, a hill I was beginning to think I might never be able to tock off after two previous attempts were scuppered. We then walkied down to Bhealach a’Mhaim and out along the side of the forest back to where we started. Overall we took just under 7 hours.

The Cobbler

5:48 pm on the 13th of February, 2005

Taken at the end of last month, this was the last good view we got of The Cobbler before it became completely covered in cloud.

The Cobbler

We didn’t actually top out because when we got to the first shoulder we suddenly lost sight of everything above us and decided to call it a day. What’s the point in working hard to get to the top when ther’s no view after all? A little disapponting but we had a very good day otherwise weatherwise.

They don’t exactly show off any skills as a photographer I may have but at least they are of a nice building. As usual, click to enlarge.
