Remember: It’s not just my site

10:26 pm on the 1st of November, 2005

I felt I should really put a proper entry here, it’s been so long since I have. I’ve spent tonight playing with a design for a little project that Lordy got me started with, actually got somewhere with it tonight which makes a change, then I spent a little time on the GUPA site. There’s been lots of contirbution from other people and I’ve felt myself getting grumpy about it which I promised myself I wouldn’t do. When I took it over I wanted to make sure I didn’t get too attached to it, and I have done so I’m a little paternal when I see other people using it, in case they might break it, or do things differently from how I would. Must stop that.

blogmeet?

11:07 am on the 26th of September, 2005

There’s a Scottish blogmeet this Saturday, in Glasgow. Should I go? I’m not sure if I still count as a blogger anymore after my three month absence. It’s a bit of a scary idea as well, the people who say they’re going aren’t from blogs I read, and you can bet most of them don’t read foolfillment.

I’ll think about it.

SCRAN

12:55 am on the 29th of June, 2005

Just stumbled upon this site of images, there’s tonnes of stuff for Dunbar, good stuff too, old postcards and things, a photo from Miss Dunbar in 1973 (wasn’t that the year my Mum and Dad moved to the town?), Even a photo of the old Roxburgh Hotel. I could spend all night looking through it but I’d better get to bed.

(see what happens when you say you’re taking a break from blogging, a hundred things come along that you have to write about)

The Rocks

12:26 am on the 29th of June, 2005

Just a quick one, I’m working really…

experiencetherocks.co.uk is the new home for the place I’m very kindly being allowed to work for at the moment. First page went up today, and more will be done when I get back in August and can get some better photos. It might not work for the next day of two while it settles into existance, newborn domains seem to like spending time asleep like newborn people. I’m just trying to get it noticed by google et al for now.
Just one problem at the moment and that is the use of inline-block for the nav (which consists of one button at the moment but will be four along the top) It doesn’t work in firefox and isn’t valid but does make it look nicer in IE, which is, if I’m being honest, the browser of choice for the expected user.

firefox extensions

5:46 pm on the 1st of June, 2005

I use the firefox browser, I use it because it’s good and I can make it do what I want it to. Since being at home (parent’s rather than uni) though I’ve had to relearn what it can do.

My PC is sitting pretty much redundant in my room and I use my parent’s machine for email and internet and that sort of thing so I’ve been shocked by how much of the usability of Firefox (on my machine) is added on later.

So, here’s a list of extensions that I use, and had to find again.

why should I cater for them…

Strange, the website for my Mum’s vet surgery is misbehaving in ie at small resolutions.why would it do this?

The last few characters of the main text is repeated outside of the box. The text is only in the source once, it works fine at anything above 800×600, as long as the sidebar is closed. I can’t work out why it’s doing this…

Dunbar Website

4:38 pm on the 20th of May, 2005

The website for the town where I grew up and still live when not at uni was recently overhauled. Before it was quite simple layout, easy to navigate and overall it was quite comfortable to use - even though it used frames. The new version though I don’t like.

Now, I do not claim to be a great designer or an expert on how information should be laid out but I am a user and I know what I like, and I find using the new site a chore. It is a user nightmare, which is a shame because it could be, and indeed was, a good tool for promoting the town. (more…)

Hi Ruebella, that’s a pretty name.

Episode 18

A quick question

11:16 am on the 18th of May, 2005

Does anyone know how to lock the vertical scrollbar in place in Firefox? In centre aligned pages where the page isn’t long enough to necessitate one it disappears - making sites jump from side to side when you navigate around - most annoying

Thanks to nytoo for pointing this out.
