On Tuesday night Life on Mars is back on telly, and about time too! I really enjoyed the first series, although I was a bit disappointed with the end of the series – it seemed like they suddenly realised they could milk a lot more out of the idea and it looked like it could turn into a series that would run and run long after it’s appeal ran out.

That shouldn’t be the case though as this series is the last and will give away what is actually happening to Sam Tyler.

Interesting though, for me anyway, is the publicity that the BBC are giving to the series. It’s been given a few different trailers over the last few weeks, starting with the Camberwick Green one, but also in the pub the other night there were copies of a spoof handbook ‘The Rules of Modern Policing’ lying around. These books must have cost a fair amount to produce and distribute (more than usually get spent on promoting a tv show anyway), so the BBC must think there is money to be made from this show. This, I suppose is proven by the books now appearing on ebay, and selling for as much as £6.50.

I’m not sure where this post is going so I’ll wrap it up by saying I’m looking forward to it on Tuesday night, and Happy Birthday to my brother.

That’s exactly what caving’s like. If you haven’t seen it you should go an watch it if you;re a little unsure about coming along on a GUPA meet. Today was rubbish. Finished off an essay that’s been hanging over me, then spent far too long trying to find a schematic of a digital radio, and prices of different lathe tools.

I went to see the new Narnia film last night. Despite expecting it to be a huge disappointment I was pleasantly surprised. There were a few things I didn’t like about it but all in all I really enjoyed it – a good story nicely adapted for film, keeping enough of the book in without making it too long.

It was only let down really by the casting of Peter and Susan I felt, they were rubbish – if you’re going to give a kid a sword and want him to seem like a King then at least show him how to wield it properly instead of trashing it around like Peter does.
There were a few things I expected to be different, but only because of how I imagined them when I read the books – Aslan should have been bigger too and the stone table should have been round and on top of a hill that surveys the land, it shouldn’t have been solid either. I can’t really complain about them though.

One question though I’ve been pondering; did my oldest brother notice any of the religious imagery when he was reading them to me all those years ago?

I know what I want for my next birthday… a complete collection of every episode, on dvd.

It’s the 20th anniversary year and loads of old characters are coming back – imagine, Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue pop back to see Paul, or maybe Jim makes an appearance from beyond the grave. Wasn’t Guy Pearce in it at one point? Wow! it’s very Exciting, are you excited? I am. Can you tell?

A little late to suggest it but a particularly good way to spend a Saturday in June was watching Belle and Sebastian and friends at the Botanic Gardens in Glasgow yesterday. They were in fine form on a glorious day which saw me and many others end up with an interesting sunburn. Notable moments included

Monica Queen turning up to perform Lazy Line Painter Jane

Poor Mick Cooke playing a transparent guitar, as if he wasn’t looking uncomfortable enough on stage already!

the dancing woman in the purple top during the support acts

Stuart Murdoch forgetting the words all the way through The Model

So that was yesterday, not a sign of Euro 2004 in sight sadly but I’ll make up for that today along with more angry letters to O2 and ordering a new Orange phone
