Ikea

3:32 pm on the 20th of October, 2005

Untill yesterday I was able to proudly say “I have never been to Ikea” but then, yesterday afternoon, it all went wrong. During the worst possible time (October break from schools - parents want to do nicen up their houses but can’t escape the house without taking the brats with them) I ventured inside looking for photo frames. And what a horrible experience it was. Nasty cheap stuff that’s mass produced to poor standards with lack of imagination/innovation and what a horrible store layout, what is wrong with having aisles? Even some prices on the products would have been nice, or some logical pattern to where stuff is on display, dreadful.

It was everything I expected and less.

Now, I do accept that they have come up with some reasonable items, some good ones too I’m sure, but on the whole the stuff they pump out is rotten. Everything I hear about the place just makes me amazed that it’s so popular. Anyway, we did get two photo frames, but not the ones we liked because there was no price on it and the only similar one was around ?20 and I refuse to pay that much for a piece of tat that won’t withstand being hung up on a wall with the extra weight of a ferw photos.

The only good thing I can see that has come from Ikea is a undiminishable supply of pencils to give out to pupils.

Dual screen

11:30 am on the 17th of October, 2005

How have I managed this far without using two screens anytime when I’m using a pc? A much more efficient use of my time, so much more efficuent I have time to blog about it.

If you put a tooth in Cola, does it actually dissolve, or is it a myth?

Do I feel strongly about this news story? Probably, but I’m not sure what way. It should never have been left for so long, if they were ever going to do something with it then they should have done it years ago, not left it to fall into such disrepair. They should replace it with something equally noticeable from the train.

Scotland won, that’s good news I suppose, but what do we do while everyone else is off on a jaunt to Germany?

Caving this weekend

10:40 pm on the 9th of October, 2005

I’ve just got back from a weekend near Ingleton with GUPA for the freshers’ weekend. As seems to be the developing theme for me caving, I went out yesterday but couldn’t bring myself to put on wet clothes today, so went for a walk instead. It was a really good weekend, lots of fun and games - climbing between the spokes of a cartwheel in a pub, balancing as many people as possible on an upturned pot then passing a sling around them, and the dining table bouldering challenge. There was even time for a trip down to Dolly Tubs after a traditional Bernie’s Breakfast

Remember, remember the 5th of October

For that is when I heard the first fireworks of the year, roll on December when they stop again.

How well can you write?

8:31 pm on the 5th of October, 2005

I got this email today from someone who is in a reasonably important role within the Glasgow Uni Sports Association, someone who you might think would be able to draft a decent email.

hey guys,
[name] past you’re e-mail addresses on to me to ask
if you could e-mail round you’re faculties and find
anyone who is interested in being a faculty rep for
recreational sport for gusa. It is basically just a
contact for me to e-mail all of teh recreational
leagues, competitions and events that are happening so
that more people can get involved, If you could get
back to me with these before friday wed 13th Oct this
would be great
Thankyou

There isn’t much excuse for not knowing which your/you’re to use, or not knowing what the difference between past and passed is, not for someone who is studying for a degree*. Or am I being a bit harsh? Also when does she want it back for? Wednesday, Friday or the 13th? None of those things match up, at least not until next year.

*For anyone what spots mistakes in this post, their deliberate, okay?

fed up

12:07 pm on the 3rd of October, 2005

Spending the day inside today, waiting for a phone call that will more than likely bring bad news about the car.

It’s not been starting properly, so it went in to get the glow plugs changed but that didn’t work, so back it went. Turned out the relay for the glowplugs was filled with water, so that was changed and it should have been the end of the matter, but it went back in on Friday when it still wouldn’t start.

A rather ominous conversation on the phone on Saturday said it might have been the battery but it wasn’t. Something else isn’t working and they are spending today trying to track it down. That they haven’t found it yet indicates bad news to me, but what do I know?

Peru photos

1:02 pm on the 1st of October, 2005

I’ve just put some of our photos from Peru onto flickr, in time I’ll get round to writing some of what happened here, but not for now, lots of other things to do first.
