SCRAN

12:55 am on the 29th of June, 2005

Just stumbled upon this site of images, there’s tonnes of stuff for Dunbar, good stuff too, old postcards and things, a photo from Miss Dunbar in 1973 (wasn’t that the year my Mum and Dad moved to the town?), Even a photo of the old Roxburgh Hotel. I could spend all night looking through it but I’d better get to bed.

(see what happens when you say you’re taking a break from blogging, a hundred things come along that you have to write about)

The Rocks

12:26 am on the 29th of June, 2005

Just a quick one, I’m working really…

experiencetherocks.co.uk is the new home for the place I’m very kindly being allowed to work for at the moment. First page went up today, and more will be done when I get back in August and can get some better photos. It might not work for the next day of two while it settles into existance, newborn domains seem to like spending time asleep like newborn people. I’m just trying to get it noticed by google et al for now.
Just one problem at the moment and that is the use of inline-block for the nav (which consists of one button at the moment but will be four along the top) It doesn’t work in firefox and isn’t valid but does make it look nicer in IE, which is, if I’m being honest, the browser of choice for the expected user.

I’m off

6:51 pm on the 27th of June, 2005

It’s been quiet here recently. I have been around, but too busy to blog. I’m off to Peru for a month on Sunday, so I’ll see you in early August.

Which tartan can you wear?

3:34 pm on the 15th of June, 2005

I went to get measured for a kilt today, which i’m getting for my 21st in October, so I’ve just spent the last half hour looking at tartan samples. According to this site I can wear either Forbes or Gordon, but the pictures on the site don’t seem to match up with the sample in the book so I went to google and came up with these results which are all pretty different. I particularly liked this result – is it some sort of sporran?

My Dad will be pleased

3:54 pm on the 14th of June, 2005

I managed to find a pair of socks that are totally intact today, no holes in either sock. Dad always seems quite upset when he sees one of my toes protruding, so this might be a nice surprise for him tonight.

Cairngorms Planning Objection

9:06 pm on the 12th of June, 2005

“The John Muir Trust takes the view that where major new pylon developments impinge on important and protected landscapes, they should always, without question, be contained underground.”

Nigel Hawkins, Director of the John Muir Trust

If you want to lodge your displeasure about the proposal to construct massive pylons through the Cairngorm National Park then go to the Cairngorms Revolt Against Pylons website.

Missing pen

2:45 pm on the 7th of June, 2005

I’ve lost my pen, it’s a parker pen with a black plastic bit that you hold and silver colour clicky top bit with gold covered clip.

If you find it can you let me know, it’s the only pen I’ve ever use for about 8 years and I’m quite annoyed to have lost it.

Update: Got it! It was down one the back of the sofa, I didn’t think things actually got lost there but it seems they do. Another happy ending.

Cliff accident

8:50 pm on the 6th of June, 2005

Something is going on outside, there were two policemen looking about The Glebe (the grassy patch outside my house) who suddenly spotted something along the coast a little bit and sped off in that direction, followed shortly by a fire engine, then the coastguard, and then the lifeboats, who must have been out on an exercise, and came over from the west. So it looks unfortunately like someone or something has fallen over one of the cliffs. I can’t go out to investigate because I have to be in to answer the phone if anyone needs a vet.

I can’t remember anything similar happening in recent years but there was a few accidents when I was still in primary school, about 10 years ago. There is a cliff opposite my house that people jump off into the sea during summer, sometimes though, people don’t realise that the tide needs to be in for them not to break something, or maybe they hit the cliff on the way down. Either way it’s not very safe, and really just pretty stupid. So that used to happen every now and then, this time though it’s round the corner from where I can see, I hope whoever it is is alright.

Update: It turns out it was a couple of boys stranded by the tide, as far as I know neither were hurt. That put your minds at rest didn’t it?

Further Update: Here’s the full story from the local rag, what I had heard wasn’t quite true, one boy broke his leg and the hadn’t been stranded by the tide, they’d fallen trying to get a ball.

firefox extensions

5:46 pm on the 1st of June, 2005

I use the firefox browser, I use it because it’s good and I can make it do what I want it to. Since being at home (parent’s rather than uni) though I’ve had to relearn what it can do.

My PC is sitting pretty much redundant in my room and I use my parent’s machine for email and internet and that sort of thing so I’ve been shocked by how much of the usability of Firefox (on my machine) is added on later.

So, here’s a list of extensions that I use, and had to find again.
