Just call me 2 Jags

12:13 pm on the 31st of May, 2005

On Friday I’m going to Glasgow to get my yellow fever vaccination and the first of three rabies injections.

Apparently the side effects of the yellow fever jag include confusion and irritability - that’s just me on any normal day so it seems like even if I do react badly with it I won’t be able to tell.

At the moment I’m working as a waiter in The Rocks in Dunbar - the first time I’ve done much waiting - I think I’m doing okay, they keep telling me I am and I’m enjoying the work.
Now I have experience of the work it gives me the chance to do more like it during term time if I need to which will come in handy.

why should I cater for them…

Strange, the website for my Mum’s vet surgery is misbehaving in ie at small resolutions.why would it do this?

The last few characters of the main text is repeated outside of the box. The text is only in the source once, it works fine at anything above 800×600, as long as the sidebar is closed. I can’t work out why it’s doing this…

SPL final day

1:33 pm on the 22nd of May, 2005

So, the final day of the season dawns, the title, obviously, is out of reach of Rangers. Come back in two and a half hours to see if I’ve hastily edited this post, here’s hoping.

The big news now though is that Gordon Strachan will be the next Celtic manager, great! I think he’d be a great addition to the SPL, how well he’d do I don’t know but he’d certainly be interesting in his interviews. He doesn’t have the best track record in management so maybe it’d be good for Rangers if he is appointed. I know I championed him for the Scotland job but it’s a different type of job altogether, and besides I’m allowed to change my mind to suit the question.

Dunbar Website

4:38 pm on the 20th of May, 2005

The website for the town where I grew up and still live when not at uni was recently overhauled. Before it was quite simple layout, easy to navigate and overall it was quite comfortable to use - even though it used frames. The new version though I don’t like.

Now, I do not claim to be a great designer or an expert on how information should be laid out but I am a user and I know what I like, and I find using the new site a chore. It is a user nightmare, which is a shame because it could be, and indeed was, a good tool for promoting the town. (more…)

How well do you know Dunbar?

2:54 pm on the 20th of May, 2005

Take a short quiz to see how well you know local landmarks. You have to be registered unfortunately, which is a major user deterrant, but more of that later…

A quick question

11:16 am on the 18th of May, 2005

Does anyone know how to lock the vertical scrollbar in place in Firefox? In centre aligned pages where the page isn’t long enough to necessitate one it disappears - making sites jump from side to side when you navigate around - most annoying

Exams, Jags and Films

11:06 am on the 18th of May, 2005

It’s been quiet here for a while, I’ve been other places, visiting home for the last two weekends to study and visit niece and nephew, getting not a lot done that’s worth writing about while I am in Glasgow, and generally just not doing anythig worthy of blog, not that it usually stops me (quanity or quality? what’s best?)

I did have a few things of note but they’re old news now, why should I bother you with them now? Ok, then you pursuaded me. We went and got the first of our injections for this summers expedition last Wednesday. Three injections in all, could have just been done with all of the bits and pieces in one needle but ‘oh no, we’ll give you three instead, so that you get two sore arms and a sore leg on top of all the flu type symptoms’. I shouldn’t really complain because he was good with the prescription for anti-malarial tablets (8 weeks for just one charge!). I’ve never had any reaction to injections before but this time all three limbs were stiff at one time or another and I felt knackered on Thursday and had a sore head, makes me not look forward to the yellow fever one that’s still to come in a while.

What else happenned? Oh, yes, I remember. Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. That was rubbish wasn’t it? An utter abomination, still, if you liked it you’re welcome to your opinion, just remember that you’re wrong. Star Wars still to come, don’t know when I’m going to see it yet.

My last exam is in about three hours from now so I’d better get back to work for a while longer. While I’m away you can look at the new GUPA website and tell me what you think.
