Irwin Tools

8:41 am on the 18th of March, 2005

We had a presentation yesterday by Irwin tools (make blades and vices and things) who showed us this blade for stanley knives, it’s pretty impressive, more impresive though is that they have a blade that does the same thing but for reciprocating saws. That was very impressive but they don’t seem to have a picture of it in use.

They started cutting through some wood with nails in it, then they cut straight down the length of a coach bolt imbedded in the wood, then e cut into the wood and started bending the blade from side to side and even bent it right over on itself. And it didn’t break, in fact it still cut, he just took it out, hit it flat with a hammer then cut down through another coach bolt.

I’ll be there with bells on!

Another photo from our travels in Europe last year, I realised I never finished re-telling our tales. This photo was at Gasthaus Michelhof, Furtwangen.

The prize of two tickets on the Paris Metro is up for grabs (I can’t gaurantee that they are still valid) if you get the correct answer to these questions:
When we left Germany, what country did we go to next and name the band who recorded a song that shares a title with the last post I wrote about our travels in Europe?

Thoughts on Glasgow

8:53 am on the 14th of March, 2005

croila has written about what the atmosphere was like in Edinburgh yesterday with the Welsh invasion, it was a bit like that in Glasgow yesterday too. Even though the game was in Edinburgh there were still hoardes of Welsh roaming the streets between train journeys and waiting for the pubs to open.

It made it seem much friendlier than usual. It seems whenever a large group of one nationality or other are in town the mood of the natives lifts. There’s big talk of the Glasgow banter and how the weegies are really friendly but I’ve never seen it except when they are talking to outsiders.

It reminds me of the couple in Father Ted who are always fighting and arguing untill the see Father Ted when they become lovely and happy and chatty.

Like that couple the glaswegians seem to hate each other but love everybody else.

I am fond of sweeping generalisations, they’re so much more fun than being diplomatic.

Stupid people. grr

‘March 13th’! What a stupid way of putting it, the default setting for the dates in Wordpress (now altered on foolfillment) is the stupid (American?) format that makes it look like you’re talking about the 13th March of 2005. Why are so many people so happy just to accept things that are incorrect because they often see them like that.

Maybe you don’t get what I’m saying, maybe I’m the stupid one, but look at my argument:

‘March the 13th’. Taken to mean the thirteenth day of March. Should really be ‘13th of March’
‘Henry the 8th’. Was the eighth King of England to have the name Henry. Henry the 8th wasn’t the eighth part of King Henry.

Now, go forth and and write what you mean, and anger me no more

Hoping I don’t get what they’ve had

Everybody seems to have had the flu or a bad cold recently, except me. I was sitting there thinking that the echinacea tablets I’d been taking were doing their job and then on the bus today I felt that cold-ey feeling, a little bunged up, ears popping, you know the drill. Maybe that’s as bad as it’ll get, I really don’t want to be taking a week off uni for a stupid illness - I’ve never been that ill before and I’m not starting now.

Jobs, Exams, Experience. Away!

6:02 pm on the 13th of March, 2005

As pointed out by Steve Strowes on GUFF, the registry have anounced the exam timetable. As a teaching student I have it really quite easy on the exam front, I only have three this year. Before I can think of them though I have to navigate my way through three weeks of Easter Holiday. I need to find a job for that time but looking for a job is rubbish.

After Easter I have a little time then exams. After that I’m aiming to do the 6 weeks of industrial placement I have to complete for the degree. I’m not looking forward to arranging that, it’ll be worse than finding a real job

And them after all that I get to go away! 4 weeks in Peru with Morven, fantastic! Not only that we get to have lots of jags and pills.
We went to get mumps boosters on Friday because that’s been doing the rounds, but we also need to get jags for Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Diptheria, Tetanus, possibly Yellow Fever and then - the bit that isn’t so good - we go on nine weeks of malarial tablets - nice.

Neighbours

Did you see it today? It was the most exciting episode ever! Paul Robinson’s back! I don’t care if you don’t care, it was brilliant to watch, you should make an effort to watch it tomorrow.

I know what I want for my next birthday… a complete collection of every episode, on dvd.

It’s the 20th anniversary year and loads of old characters are coming back - imagine, Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue pop back to see Paul, or maybe Jim makes an appearance from beyond the grave. Wasn’t Guy Pearce in it at one point? Wow! it’s very Exciting, are you excited? I am. Can you tell?
