Dairy Free, Day 1

2:52 pm on the 2nd of March, 2005

I started last night with a bowl of Alpen with lovely soya milk but the real thing started today.
Some toast with jam for breakfast, sandwiches with ham and pickle for lunch followed by an apple and some crisps (where I fall down - the salt and vinegar crisps contain whey and lactose, ready salted from now on) and the plan for tea is some nice pork and apple stew - lovely, no milk there.

It’s going to be harder than I thought, the list of foods to be avoided encompasses almost everything I already have in, I had to have dry sandwiches today because I forgot to get sunflower spread and the buter I have is a big no no. A list of some of the things I have to avoid

  • all milks
  • cream
  • chocolate, toffee, fudge!
  • creamed sauces
  • custard, ice cream creamed cakes
  • whey
  • yoghurt
  • margarine
  • and some crisps

Not to mention none of the garlic butter kievs I have in the freezer

Ugh. That doesn’t sound fun. Will it make the skin better?

It also makes future family meals sound very odd. Especially th near future. What with two women in the family way, a grandparent (of 1, soon to be 3) off alcohol for Lent, and the big sis on a gluten free diet. Oh and, your other half is a veggie!

Actuallym its as well that Morven isn’t vegan, Sounds like you’re off everything a vegan eats!

Sounds like you?re off everything a vegan eats!

Actually the vegan stuff is what I am allowed and they have some good looking recipes, along with still being able to eat, meat, fish and eggs. Tonight I had a tasty vegan style Cuban Rice and Beans.

I had no idea. Well, best of luck with it. Big sis says she is feeling much better for her non-wheat stuff.

The site looks great by the way, as I think I’ve said before.

I hope it all goes well. I’ll be thinking of you when I tuck into my beer, chocolate and tea.

I bet I’m intolerant to mushrooms too.
