foolfillment: the blog

The urge to redesign

5:03 pm on the 22nd of February, 2005

while it never leaves me completely it does calm sometimes, only to come all of a sudden stonger than ever. Just looking at the default template that WP1.5 comes with makes me cringe about the template I last designed for foolfillment.

I thought so, that was my pont - he design is the default one that comes with the new version, that is to say I didn’t design it.

damn - I posted an reply here last night, and yet its not on. I couldn’t upload a foto to my developing fotolog either, or send emails. Don’t know what was on

The new default Wordpress template certainly looks slick, but it’s a little generic for my liking. (You know that way you get with BlogSpot blogs that are so similar you end up forgetting which blog you’re reading? :)). If you’re keeping the template, I happened across Kubrickr, a sweet tool that simplifies setting the masthead background to a photo from Flickr, rather than the big blue box. (Now that I write that, it doesn’t seem so remarkable, but I’m sure it does something interesting with it….)

By the way (commenting with an ulterior motive? Never!) I wondered if you’d be interested in joining GUFF, a little aggregator site I’m running for blogs of students, alumni and staff of Glasgow Uni. More content is always welcome!

What I was trying to say, tho it didn’t work, was that the style sheet looks smart, business like (generic - per Derek) but ultimately quickly boring. Why you and we all liked it at first glance was that it was new, and exciting to the eye. We’re used to your template that’s all. A first time visitor may well have preferred your current one.

If youmust redesign, look at the layout, I say, not the colour. your archive, for instance. Could you shorten that? Say to just offering year, then when you click on 2003, it opens up the months? Maybe the same with all thise blogs. Right now your sidebar looks a tad out of control. I’d do that, or play around your edges - not go for a full re-write!
