Ben Vane and Ben Ime

9:37 pm on the 28th of February, 2005

Last Sunday (20th February) I ventured out in the freezing cold with a friend and went up where it was even colder, it was a very tough day’s walking over hard snow.
We parked just past Inversloy power station and headed down the road and under the railway bridge then up the track to the dam. Just past a farm we left the track and headed up the shoulder(s) of Ben Vane. Two hours after leaving the car we were at the top, another two hours later we had dropped off the other side of Ben Vane and, via Lag Uaine and Glas Bhealach, made our way up to the summit of Ben Ime, a hill I was beginning to think I might never be able to tock off after two previous attempts were scuppered. We then walkied down to Bhealach a’Mhaim and out along the side of the forest back to where we started. Overall we took just under 7 hours.

WP again

4:27 pm on the 28th of February, 2005

I’ve moved over totally to the new themes that came with the new WordPress now so there are a few things not quite right, given time I’ll tweak untill I’m happy with them.

My to do list
Permalinks are now pretty, and the label is the post title, I will add a link after the post as before. [done]
I’ve hidden the recently commented list, it may return but I think it loks simpler without it. (I could put it in a separate page if you like?) [done, on a separate page for now]
I’d like to tidy up the monthly archives so you can navigate between months.
I’ll add a link to the homepage from the other pages. [done, click the header graphic, I'm not usre that's clear enought though, what did you use before, would you prefer a link on the left?]

Intolerant of dairy products!

4:01 pm on the 28th of February, 2005

I went and had myself tested for food intolerances today, with the idea that it might turn up something I hadn’t thought of and I could just remove from my diet without much bother. I suppose it got the first bit alright, I never expected to be intolerant of dairy products, after all I’ve practically lived off meals made up of milk and cheese my whole life. Not only did it turn up cow’s milk and cheese, but also goat’s milks, sheep’s milk (I didn’t even know you could buy that), orange (as I suspected). It also showed mild intolerances of yeast (beer!) and chocolate.

The next step is to cut out the offending foods for a month and see how I am, if I like I can re-introduce some items one at a time.

I don’t really believe it. I’ve eaten everything except mushrooms (which I’m also intolerant of it turns out) my entire life and never had any problems. My suspicion is that when I’m at home I have a better diet and my body deals with the problems foods but when I’m away from home - like at uni - then my diet doesn’t provide enough balance to cope.

Style Switcher

9:04 pm on the 24th of February, 2005

Ok, so I’ve done a nice little style sheet for you to use, and I’ve even modified the old one, and I;ve installed a style switcher, you might see the links over on the right.

The only problem is that it doesn’t work. And I don’t know why.

If you want, and you’re using firefox ,you could change them manually, otherwise you’ll just have to stick with the current style untill I can get the switcher to work.

But I’m off to the pub now though so don’t hold your breath.

The urge to redesign

5:03 pm on the 22nd of February, 2005

while it never leaves me completely it does calm sometimes, only to come all of a sudden stonger than ever. Just looking at the default template that WP1.5 comes with makes me cringe about the template I last designed for foolfillment.

hello?

4:46 pm on the 22nd of February, 2005

did it work, or have I broken it?

bare with me

MunroMagic.com

6:20 pm on the 17th of February, 2005

A really good site with a database of all the Munros, you can select the ones you’ve done, customise your walking speed, search for routes by time/assent etc. I might be spending a lot of time here getting my details right.

The Cobbler

5:48 pm on the 13th of February, 2005

Taken at the end of last month, this was the last good view we got of The Cobbler before it became completely covered in cloud.

The Cobbler

We didn’t actually top out because when we got to the first shoulder we suddenly lost sight of everything above us and decided to call it a day. What’s the point in working hard to get to the top when ther’s no view after all? A little disapponting but we had a very good day otherwise weatherwise.
