UofG :: Rectorial Nominations

7:40 am on the 26th of November, 2004

John Beattie is, I think, a fantastic choice in his own right, and alongside the other nominees he is miles ahead. Of course this election should have happenned last year but a failure by all the relevant uni bodies to publicise the deadline for nominations meant the students were left without a voice on the Senate for the first time in around 100 years.

Come one! I’m all for a bit of humour in politics but there’s a real chance that students might actually vote for this woman, whoever she is.
And, doesn’t popular mean someone has to have been watching it and like it?

    Hmm. No celebs then, really. I agree with you, go for Beattie.

    Urrgh – you forget your email, you go back and the comment is gone…

    All I was saying was – it is a poor list. We had Stephen Fry at Dundee (and Lorrane Kelly, so maybe we got luckt with Stephen Fry). Why not emulate Gordon Brown and stand yourself?

  3. Jack McPhee (fresh from the sea)

    Sod Heather from River city – I say vote for Annas Alamudi: the man is a genius. (Anyione out there who has heard his laugh will doubtless agree with me…)

  4. Stuart

    Maybe I would have made a good rector but it’s in the rules that matriculated students can’t be nominated. Doesn’t say they can’t be elected though…

    I’ve never heard his laugh so I can’t comment on his genius, can’t see how haveing a good laugh qualifies you for genius status, although it is of course required if you want to be an evil genius.

    Also I think it’s fair to say tat Mordechai Vanunu wouldn’t be a good choice, hard to see how he’d make the meetings from his prison cell.
