Glasgow : Scotland, but with real people being the sheep

11:57 am on the 11th of March, 2004

No matter how hard they try to convince people otherwise, Glasgow will always be a city riddled with poverty and horrible people looking for a fight, and as far as this quote goes :

Glasgow: Scotland with style is not simply a slogan. It capitalises on a point of differentiation that no other city can claim - Charles Rennie Mackintosh

source : BBC

They can claim him all they like, his stuff was rubbish, in my opinion at least. His buildings were okay, but nothing special and the stuff he put in them was dirty and cluttered looking. I find it funny that people buy Mackintosh style things nowadays, they seem to only be able to justify it by saying ‘oh, but it’s Mackintosh, it must be good’ Another example of people taken in by popular opinion, if I were to get a few people extolling the virtues of having a pile of dung in the middle of kitchens then it wouldn’t take long before people started following the lead. Gah, I hate people, they’re all stupid.

You seem a bit full of rants just now. I hope you’re feeling ok.

Have you any good things to talk about? You know, like the Pixies playing T-in-the-Park. Or how much your nephew has grown. Or how Capucho et al have been told to sling their hook. Or my forthcoming Caribbean holiday.

For my money, Mackintosh wasn’t bad - but it’s a shame he didn’t copyright his name. All this Mackintosh-lite stuff does him no favours.

I’m not feeling ok to be honest, still full of the cold and I’ve just come home early because it probably wouldn’t have been wise to let myself loose with power tools when I could hardly work a pencil today

Maybe you’d like to talk about some of those things, a guest blogger spot sort of thing? I could set up an account for you and you can fill in for me untill I’m better.

I was trying to cheer you up, that’s all. (well, except for the but about the BVI) It sounds as tho you feel like i did yesterday.

One thing I am glad about tho, is that Mum and Dad went to Barca yesterday, not Madrid.

I keep meaning to fone you as wel, btw. When is the best time to catch you? (feel free to text me this answer). I may fone you tonite when the Barca game is on. Is that a good time?

Hmm…why do people from the East Coast fear Glasgow?

  5. Stuart

I don’t fear it, I just don’t care much for the people.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh? Oh yawn… It’s like Burbery tartan - once the masses get hold of it, it completely devalues. Ugh.
