London 2012

In general I think the Olympics being held in London would be good for UK sport, but why London? In fact why should the Olympics be held in just one city anyway when other major events (Football and Rugby World Cups, Football’s European Championships etc) are held in whole countries. Obviously I realise that these examples all need the same sort of stadia and it isn’t logical to put 12 stadiums in one city and leave other cities without but if the olympics were held in a country rather than one city then new facilities could be spread around and be of benefit for the whole country. It doesn’t make sense and is totally unfair to give one city - beit a capital or not - a brand new athletics stadium, brand new swimmping pool and diving pool, brand new sports halls AND the income from hosting a majpr world event. And why if the games have to be hosted by just one city should it be London? Wouldn’t a more centrally placed city be better. It’s more likely to leave tourists keen to travel the rest of the country than a city right at the bottom. It’s harder/more expensive to get to than other cities from most places. And it gets a lot of tourist anyway being the capital.

And what a horrid logo they’ve chosen for their bid.

The reason it’s London is because Manchester missed out on 2000, because, we were told, it wasn’t the capital. At least that’s what we were told by the people who believed Manchester should never have been allowed to bid, on the grounds t hat only london should be allowed to do exciting things like build domes, and athletics stadiums at Picketts Lock. Whats the capital of Australia?

But you are right, countries, not cities should be the bidders.

It’s a good idea…but if you go central, then you’re looking at Birmingham.

Which is why it’s been so long since we hosted the Olympics.

sydney isn’t the capital of australia, atlanta and la aren’t the capital of the us and barcelona isn’t the capital of spain… so capital chat is no good. but how bring would be olympics in manchester or birmingham?????? RIO RIO RIO!!!!!

Sunday 5th of june, a small group of anti-olympics activists take over the “Hotel de Ville” subway (just under the Paris town hall) and place hundred of “Take back the bid, London 2012″ stickers over the pro-Paris 2012 advertising, to protest against the olympic parano?a from Bertrand Delan?e.

Feel free to talk about this! The world must now that not every french citizen want the olympics games in Paris!
