School Placement
2:50 pm on the 8th of December, 2003As part of my course I have to go out and do a placement at a school for two weeks after Christmas. I found out that I’m going to Dunbar Grammar School, where I was a pupil. I’m not sure what to expect, I don’t have a problem about seeing the teachers again but there will be some pupils there who were there at the same time as I was. Two thirds of them in fact. I don’t know how that will affect how things go. As yet I don’t even know what the placement involves so it might be I only see 1st and 2nd years which would be fine and dandy but if I have to take charge in a class of 4th years say, then what reason do they have for taking any attention f me, after all, as far as they’re concerned I’m not a teacher, I’m just someone who used to get to push infront of them in the dinner queue.
We’ll see.

Do they do this deliberately? Or did you ask for it? It seems odd that of all the schools in Scotland, you had to get placed in this one?
Maybe they want you to sort out the school website?!
It’ll be odd tho. 18 months ago it was Miss Fallon, for instance. Now it’ll be Sheila, I would imagine.
You go from a master-pupil relationship, to a senior master-junior master relationship.
The pupil relationship will be easier. You’re still above them, heirarchically-(spell?)-wise. I think.

I had to be placed somewhere I could get to. This was either a school in Glasgow or one near Dunbar, seeing as most of the other students are also able to go to a Glasgow school it was presumably easier for them to to find a placement at Dunbar.
The website is on some state but it needs someone to take it on for the year to add content, the design itself is fine at the moment.
It will be a bit strange calling teachers by their first names but the relationship itself shouldn’t be a problem as they are all mature enough to know that I’m no longer a pupil. THe pupils though might not see it that way. That’s my point.
Any-hoo

How exciting, and interesting. I look forward to seeing you a few times.
