On last nights drubbing

9:36 am on the 1st of May, 2003

I didn’t go to the football lastnight but has I gone with three other people I think it would have doubled the scottish attendance, if my maths is right.

I only saw the last 15 or so minutes on tv but that was enough to remind me how bad we are at the moment.

Today the SPL board are voting on wheter to allow Falkirk into the top league, the main stumbling block for Falkirk being the size of their stadium. Last night the Scottish National Team played infront of just 12 189 people but the SPL are still insisting that every team in the Premierleague has a stadium capacity of 10000. Am I the only one to spot a problem with that?

    I see what you mean.

Some people would argue, though, that Falkirk shouldn’t get in because they have had years to invest in their stadium, and they haven’t, whilst other teams have invested money into their stadiums, and maybe lost out on other things instead. Take Airdrie.

But I agree with you. Its a stupid rule, and they should get rid of it. But in the meantime, they have to make it, erm, a level playing field.

    No you arethe only one.

In part answer to Lordy, it’s difficult to apply that argument to Falkirk. They’ve had the stadium money set aside for some time, the deal to sell Brockville in place, they’ve been operating for some time under the same constraints as every one else - it showed last year when they were ‘relegated’ from Div One, only to see Airdrie ‘fold’ and save them. Were it not for bureaucracy, and the inability of Falkirk Council and the Scottish Exec to take decisions when they are needed, Falkirk would have been in their new stadium for some time.

(The other difference between Falkirk and Airdrie is that the Falkirk board have run their club well, only spent money they had, and haven’t managed to alienate their support by a series of misjudged PR decisions)

What about Walter Smith? He’s out of a job at the moment

Walter Smith? With, no doubt, Archie as his assistant? Aagh!!! Has it come to this?

I’vemy own thoughts, but I’m keeping them that way

Well they’ve done it. As you can see here sign Flkirk’s players on the cheap than play against them next season.
