Is there really any point trying any more?

6:42 pm on the 5th of December, 2002

Just on the eve of on Old Firm game weekend we get this news story that we haven’t heard about since the last game. It makes me wonder just how much Jack McConnell and all the other politicians actually think they can do to fix the problems or how much they’re doing it to win votes

The same day we also get this story in The Herald about the unionjackshop.com website, this page in particular.

One thing they could do is force Glasgow City Council to revoke all the street traders licences that sell paramilitary shite outside Ibrox and the Piggery. I’m not meaning them all, tho I know Rangers do. I’m just talking about the ones that sell pro-provo stuff, whereas Rangers (the only side I’m an authority on) seem to see it as a way of also getting rid of the traders selling scarves that are also sold in club shops, and fanzines that dare to criticise the way their club is run.

It’s a frequently stated ‘fact’/urban myth that the same traders appear outside either ground on alternate weeks. It wouldn’t sem to hard to give the police powers to weed out the unacceptable stuff, would it?

I don’t think they’re paying lip service to it. There are acts being drafted etc. But legislation takes time, especially this stuff. Get it wrong and the whole hibs crowd could be arrested for singing that they hate jam tarts, or both St Johnstine fans could be done for hating Dundee. When what they really want is, while the police can’t arrest the whole of Parkhead for singing the Boys of the Old Brigade, they can get the two pricks who try and start it up. And they exist at both clubs (and others when they play the old firm).

That all said, they do talk it up when the Old Firm game comes round. They say it’s them trying, but they are trying for votes and a statesmanlike appearance.

Fancy Rangers for the win tomorrow?

I was disappointed to find that the website’s paramilitary clothes page doesn’t feature any Glasgow Rangers monikered black balaclavas, which would have made a lovely christmas present for the hun who has everything.

Yeah, stick it up your Glasgow Rangers, I say.

They should simply make the Old Firm illegal, and be done with it. I don’t like them anyway.

I can just see it happening
“Lordy arrested for singing irritatingly repetitive song about the Den’s Park Loyal”

And another thing that caught my eye was this great offer from the proddy’s :30 reasons to be protestant for the bargain price of just ?30. Any other religions got a better offers to draw in the kids? Is it just a seasonal offer : “convert before Christmas and it only costs ?30*”

    *plus postage and packaging

    Prediction for tomorrow:

    3-1 home win.
