playing with flash

11:45 pm on the 5th of November, 2002

after a bit of playing with it when i got a book at christmas last year from my middle brother, I at last got and did something with Flash 5 the other day, it’s not much and it’s still work in progress but what do people think?

i’ve got a few questions:

  • how can i stop it from looping continuously?
  • how do you add links/hotspots if i wanted it to link to the main page, my current index?
  • or what might be even better was if it would automatically load the index when it’s finished playing
  • any ideas how i could make it a bit more interesting, or at least a bit interesting to start with?

Well, I don’t know much about how to use Flash, but it looks good, I like it. And more encouraging noises. I look forward to your development.

Cool flash bit. How long did that take you?

    Hello there…
I’ve come via a brother [your's not mine] who said you had some flash questions [though what you've got looks good to me] I’ve done abit of flash in the passed [mostly games tho'] but if you want to email your .fla i’ll have a look.

The problems you’ve mentioned shouldn’t be too hard to do. just putting a stop action on the final frame.

…but like i say send me the fla and what you wanna do and we can go from there.

thanks for the offer of help, but instead of me sending it to you and you doing it all I think I’d prefer to have a go at doing it myself.
I’ve tweaked it a bit so that it jumps URL at the end.
I don’t really care what it looks like, I just want to do something that looks a bit fancy and is a challenge for me. Maybe you could give me some ideas as what to do, or maybe send me some of your .fla’s and I could try and work out how they work, play about with them or something. Maybe something to replace the random texts because I just nicked that idea from nu-prod.

I keep meaning to go to flash kit for some ideas but never get round to doing it.

On another theme, I was doing some really basic HTML as part of my course today, I’ve never really done much building with it before, only tweaking what I’ve made in DreamWeaver, it was good but too basic, I knew everything before.

Ah but its much nicer doing it yourself than with dreamweaver, doncha think? I don’t know, youngsters these days want it all done for them….

it is much better doing it from scratch but when i started i was thrown in the deep end knowing absolutely nothing, i couldn’t just learn html, it was more reasonable just to use a package that was similar to what i’d used before, which did the job. it’s the same as the guy whos’running it now, he didn’t know any html but at least he’s had some practice and training with dreamweaver so that the basics can be updated. not doing too bad a job either, he just needs to link to the style sheet. have a look for yourself

by the by, the radio should be getting broadcast outside of school now but i have’nt been able to hear it (the uni’s network seems to be quite unpredictable with things like that), can anybody else get it, the site is here

well, in my usual, non-computer-literate style, I’ve an impractical suggestion. I’ve got several entertaining m-pegs (bertie in the semifinal, lovekrands, ferguson, and lovenkrands again in the final) and there’s lots of non football ones floating about. You could do it so one plays in the corner of the screen everytime they hit your homepage. For a while. Before it got annoying.

nb, i must set a aside a spare day (what is that) for typing website content. Then I can do some tidying and work out hot to upload it. Maybe before xmas…

Cool…i just meant that if i had the file i could see what you were doing abit more easily…if you get stuck let me know [through Al] and i’ll do my best.
