I’ve been moved into a flat - woohoo!

4:14 pm on the 24th of November, 2002

I got moved into one of the flats in the halls yesterday with a bath and a tv and a kitchen and everything else you could possibly want.

It’s not as good as it sounds though, it’s becasue of what’s happening in this picture.

Yesterday, I was up and about feeling only a little bit hungover from Friday night and then I went to my block’s kitchen to find water flowing out of my neighbours room. Not much fun at all. Apparently the problem was that some overflow tank had overflown (fills you with confidence, doesn’t it?) and started coming up through the floors of my block. Luckily I found it and could move all of my stuff off the floor before it made it into my room but my neighbour wasn’t so lucky. He was away for the weekend so that’ll be a nice surprise for him.
The end result, everybody on the ground floor of D block got moved into B(osnia) block (except me who somehow managed to get first choice of the available rooms and ended up said flat) untill the whole place gets re-carpeted.

What’ll probably happen is that I’ll have to move back in a couple of days before the end of term and then have to move all my stuff back out again for Christmas.
Grr…

I’ve just bought Dead Air by Iain Banks, is it any good?
I didn’t recognise it as one of his because it doesn’t have the usual type of cover.

an idea for my next site

6:47 pm on the 13th of November, 2002

like i just said i have to design a site next week. i get an hour to do it all in, i don’t know if we get given an idea of what the content should be but if i don’t i’ll obviously have to come up with it myself. i don’t want to faff about doing that, so has anyone else got any ideas?

i was about to put forward some suggestions but as usual, when i’m trying to have interesting, creative ideas, i’m totally stuck and need someone else to do it for me… :-(

css style sheets tips

6:31 pm on the 13th of November, 2002

as part of my application software module i have to design a website from scratch, including all the usual gubbins (tables, lists, links, images etc…) as well as bewing linked to my css style sheet.
i want to have a thing in my style sheet that’ll change certain words when they get typed, for example changing the font type, font size/decoration/background etc. i don’t know if this can be done, one use i want it for is to change words into links automatically, because i think it’d be dead usefull for this site as there are a few things i link to regularly.

a while ago i tried something that was supposed to work with movable type but it didn’t, this would be better anyway as it would be totally useable on any site.
does any one have any ideas as to how i can do this? or better ideas?

A-ha!

If I were a redneck…
